Excellence Charter School – Brooklyn, NY

The Taurino Management team worked closely with the architect to find creative ways to streamline the construction of 60,000 sf of a new construction addition to an existing 30,000 sf original structure.

The building, built in the 1880s, required a complete gut and renovation while maintaining the historical façade.  The school facility now houses 29 classrooms, a 500 seat auditorium, a cafeteria, a gym, and 10,000 sf rooftop play surface.

The project was estimated to take 36 months to complete and was fully built and restored in only 24 months.  Chris Cangemi acted as Project Manager while Salvatore DeGrotta was the Senior Field Supervisor for the duration of the project. This Non-Profit not only reached their goals on time but did so while coming-in under budget, garnering  the savings of one year of costs and eliminating the client’s need for a temporary facility.

Notably, this project earned 2007 Award from the Preservation League of NY State for Excellence in Historic Preservation. Read more here.
