In June of 2017, Taurino immediately joined as the CM for the summer enhancements of both tri-state locations. Previously a Mandell Organization school, the 795 Columbus Ave. location required rebranding, complete structural and architectural enhancements, and a TCO within the summer months.
With no prior working relationship with Taurino, Basis was understandably concerned that a new CM could take advantage of the demanding situation, thus escalating their costs considerably. However, Taurino presented a simple plan to operate as fee % of the cost of work with fixed GC cost for labor and supervision which honored the defunct CM’s proposal issued months prior. All subcontractor work was solicited and bid with Basis input and feedback.
Not only did Taurino meet the client’s original budget without exceeding by 30% margins, as projected by the discontinued CM, but they completed the project on schedule, meeting the client’s goal of opening The Basis Independent School Manhattan in Fall 2017, as originally planned.
